Does HEB Take Apple Pay

Contactless payments are taking over, especially post the COVID-19 pandemic. Let’s face it, cash is great, but it can take longer at the counter to pay, it’s germy, and it lacks security. Many consumers are moving into more contactless payment types, like Apple Pay, but do they work at grocery stores like HEB?

HEB does not accept Apple Pay as a payment option. However, they offer their own contactless technology, called HEB Go, as an alternative. This payment system works like Apple Pay, but you can only use it at HEB stores.

This article will tell you how to use contactless payment options at HEB, give you the details on HEB’s payment options, and dive into the benefits of contactless payments at HEB. So, read on to answer your inquiries about contactless payment and Apple Pay at your local HEB.

Paying Contactlessly at HEB

HEB is an iconic Texas grocery store. It began in the early 1900s as a small, family-owned, and operated store in Kerrville, Texas, and now has nearly 500 stores and almost 200,000 employees across the state of Texas and Mexico.

So, if you haven’t heard of HEB yet, that’s probably because you haven’t spent a significant amount of time in Texas. Still, with the way this American-made business is growing, it may end up in a town near you, and if it does, you’ll get the chance to try out their unique contactless payment option – HEB Go.

So, as I mentioned in the previous section of this article, HEB is not currently accepting Apple Pay as a means of contactless payment. However, they have successfully developed their own app that allows consumers ease of use, quick payment options, and an easy shopping experience.

Using HEB Go is simple, and all of its customers can get it because it’s available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store. To use HEB Go, all you need is your phone.

You start by grabbing your bags – you can either bring your own or pick some up at the store on your way in. Then, you scan your items in the app and place your checked items in your bags as you shop.

Just weigh the items on the weigh stations if you got some produce, and a barcode will print out so you can scan it with your phone. Also, you may need a few items that you can’t scan. In that case, set the unscanned things aside in your cart and when you go to the HEB Go checkout kiosk, scan those remaining items.

This method takes long checkout processes out of the equation, saving you time. Plus, you can bag your items as you go if you bring some reusable bags, so checkout will only take seconds.

You pay as you usually would, grab your receipt, and go about your day!

What Forms of Payment Does HEB Accept?

While HEB, the infamous Texas grocery chain, does not accept Apple Pay, it does take several other payment options.

HEB accepts multiple forms of payment, both in-store and online. HEB accepts cash, debit cards, credit cards, personal checks, and HEB Go in-store. Online, the payment methods are limited to debit or credit cards.

The technology is reportedly available at HEB store registers for them to be able to accept Apple Pay. Still, according to this article from First Quarter Finance, it isn’t quite ready to be utilized.

Along those lines, it’s reported that HEB may accept Google Pay at a limited number of stores, though HEB officials have not confirmed this claim.

What has been confirmed is HEB’s ability to eventually take more contactless forms of payment, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.  For now, customers can only enjoy the benefits of contactless payment by utilizing the app HEB Go.

What Are the Benefits of Using HEB Go?

At the moment, HEB Go is the only form of contactless payment that HEB stores are accepting.  Although the likelihood that HEB will take Apple pay and other contactless payment forms in the future is increasing every day, for the time being, customers can reap many benefits from the store’s mobile app.

The benefits of HEB Go include a more streamlined shopping experience and the convenience of not going through extended checkout times and lines. HEB Go also helps you reduce contact with others  and touch fewer surfaces,

If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that it’s essential to limit our contact with large crowds and high-traffic areas if we want to reduce our chances of getting sick.  For this primary reason, using HEB Go and other contactless payment forms have many benefits for users.

Conclusion

Apple Pay is taking the world by storm. While this can be a scary shift for more conservative consumers, cash is slowly becoming a thing of the past as technology evolves and grows.

While not every store accepts Apple Pay, most stores currently have a contactless payment option, including HEB.

There are also many benefits of contactless payments. Quick, safe, and efficient shopping experiences are just a few consumer benefits of using Apple Pay or other contactless payment options.
